Unusual friendships

When the country went on lockdown my husband and I decided due to our age it would be best to isolate as much as possible. We have a dog, who off course still needs walking, and this breaks up my day a little bit. Prior to lockdown our dog made friends with this 7 year old neighbour, she absolutely loves our dog. This girl asked me if she could walk the dog with me at a safe distance, which I thought would be nice. Now this girl and I have daily social distance walks and chats and she comes and sit in front of our window to talk to me for hours. This interaction has been really special to me especially as I can't see my own (adult) children who live to far away to safely visit us.

My neighbourhood

The best thing that has happened because of the pandemic is that people have started having more contact with their neighbours. In my neighbourhood in the north part of Sweden where I have lived the past 23 years, people barely said hi when seeing each other outside in the communal areas. Now families meet and have barbecues. Sometimes we sit outside and talk about everything from politics, food, clothes and most of the time about the weather which has been cold, rainy and cloudy almost every day. But I'm happy to have got to know my neighbours this summer.
